The Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) of the University of Aveiro, partner in the Life Reforest project, organised a seminar to celebrate the World Soil Day 2021 in which the results of the Life Reforest project were presented, together with the ones from the Femme and EPyRIS projects.
In the event, that took place as a webinar on the 3rd of December, Diana Veira, from the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), introduced the over 40 participants to the situation of the post-fire soil erosion risk and mitigation mapping in Portugal. Following her intervention, researchers from the University of Aveiro presented the results from three projects:
- Life Reforest, dedicated to the mitigation of the soil loss associated to post-fire episodes in forest areas by developing and validating a system based in mycotechnosols.
- Femme, focused on the development of a modelling tool for post-fire erosion risks.
- EPyRIS, an Interreg Project for the design of an integrated management strategy for the protection and restauration of ecosystems affected by forest fires in high-risk natural areas.
The event concluded with an interesting questions and discussion session among the participants.
